The 13th Amendment
June 20, 2021 | Civil Rights
Today, we commemorate the 13th amendment, which largely abolished slavery, except as punishment for a crime.
Mass incarceration continues where slavery ended, separating families, and dehumanizing and traumatizing people of color. Policymakers should strategically push for reforms that reduce incarceration and avoid changes that will broaden disparities, especially racial and ethnic disparities.
